Since 1977, we have celebrated International Museum Day in Poland. This is why, the Night of Museums takes place every year on a weekend in May, around May 18. The Night of Museums is a pan-European event, in which 120 cities in Europe participate. For one weekend, galleries and cultural institutions open for visitors with free night tours and visits. The event is under the patronage of the European Council of Europe.
Last year, more than 60 institutions were open for visitors in Wroclaw. Many of the events took place on streets and squares. Night of Museums also involves a number of attractions for children.
What the Night of Museums in 2015 will be like will be determined to a large extent by Wroclaw cultural organizations. All cultural institutions interested in joining the festival had an opportunity to send an application form to the Department of Culture of the City Hall until the end of February.
The schedule of this year’s schedule is not known yet. However, it is certain that this year on the Night of Museums, on May 16 (Saturday), museums and galleries will experience a real siege.
