From August 14 to 16, Oleśnica near Wroclaw will host Polish and foreign artists. Actors, jugglers, magicians, tightrope walkers, comedians and mimes will appear at Oleśnica Artistic and Circus festival (OFCA).
OFCA is a large street festival, which takes place simultaneously in the center of town and in an area of ponds surrounded by greenery. For three days, actors will give more than thirty entertaining performances. In the castle courtyard and in the windows of houses in the Market there will be tightropes strung, there will be the finale of a Fire Show competition, and small and older children will take part in a series of workshops. On the streets of Oleśnica there will be a magical circus atmosphere.
In this year’s festival the following places will be adapted as stages: the Market, the Amphitheatre and the Duke’s Castle in Oleśnica. In the vicinity of the Castle tightropes will be stretched, on which performers will walk. The bailey will turn into a campsite made available to visitors, and in the middle there will be a real circus tent that will serve as the festival club! Food will be provided by Foodtrucks invited to the festival.
What will delight children?
The youngest visitors will be offered a series of workshops. On both Saturday and Sunday between 11 am and 2 pm at the Amphitheatre the following classes will be held: juggling, tightrope walking and bubble blowing. The workshops for beginners will include: hula hoops, dancing on a sash, a fire show. For advanced learners the following classes will be prepared: diabolo, juggling, acrobatics, high performance in-line skating shows and professional warm up.
On Saturday, August 15, a Great Circus Parade will go through the streets. It will be loud, fun and colorful, with powder fireworks, which will crown a procession at the Oleśnica Market.
The parade will depart at 2 pm from the amphitheater (after the workshop).
In addition to the workshops, circus animations and large soap bubbles, children will also be able to try walking a tightrope under the supervision of animators and will take part in all sorts of games and activities – all in the green areas surrounding the ponds.
The biggest attractions of OFCY
A characteristic feature of the festival is its circus character. For the duration of the festival, there will be an entire tightrope town created in the castle grounds, above the beautiful ponds. Tapes will be spread out over the water and over the heads of passers-by. Two tight ropes will hang over the market, and three above the courtyard of the Castle. They will be available for everyone who wants to try their hand at heights. Beginners need not worry – they will be under the supervision of specialists. It is suggested that they bring their own harness, although this is not necessary.
The Open Stage Fire Show will also be delightful: a display of juggling with fire, which will be held in the courtyard of the Castle of the Oleśnicki Dukes. Swirling flames will be on display on Friday from 10:30 pm.
On Saturday at 9 pm, Mathias Romir will perform his presentation of “Life is short stories”. Matthias Romir tries to deal with everyday sorrows, fears and hopes without words.
Sunday’s summary of the festival will be “Variete” (within the walls of St. George’s). It will be a series of short performances of artists who will perform on the streets of Oleśnica during the festival.
